The Design Process
My team and I followed a thorough five-step design process involving Discovery, Design, Usability Testing, Delivery, and Implementation for this project over the course of three months during my internship at Amway.
// CONTEXT
This project was a summer-long collaborative effort with other interns at Amway, aimed at designing and delivering a new set of marketing email templates. The objective was to enhance outreach to Amway Business Owners and customers through multiple branches of the company by creating templates that were adaptable, appealing, user-friendly, informative, intuitive, and modern.
// DISCOVERY
Before starting the project, I spent a week or two learning about Amway's design system and standards to simplify the design process later on. After collaborating with my team to master the design system in Figma, we identified the email template with the most content (thumbnail videos, promotion offers, incentive programs) as our primary focus. This decision was driven by the strategy to ensure the templates not only fulfilled the content needs but also adhered to the client’s goals of being both informative and intuitive.
// ITERATION & FEEDBACK
The project was structured around weekly stand-up meetings with my team and lead UX designers, supplemented by user surveys and peer reviews. It helped ensure that our designs stayed aligned with user expectations and the client’s goals of creating modern, appealing, and user-friendly email templates.
// FINAL DESIGN
The final templates were crafted into Figma components that incorporated a broad variety of Amway’s sophisticated design elements, such as colors, icons, images, and illustrations. I found it effective to create each section as a separate component that could be toggled on or off based on the content requirements of each email, and this feature added adaptability through the use of booleans, variants, and text properties, allowing for easy customization across different target markets.
// GOING OUT WITH A BANG!
At the end of my internship, I had to opportunity to present the redesigned email templates to Amway’s high-level executives during a reverse career fair on behalf of my team. The result was high interest and positive feedback from around the company. Implementation of these email templates helped improve marketing communications throughout Amway and demonstrated my ability to meet and exceed multiple client goals in a real-world project.
